Life
Longchen Rabjam (1308–1364) systematised Nyingma Great Perfection (Dzogchen) thought in works such as the Seven Treasuries. He is central to later Dzogchen study. ORDL lists him as a Tibetan Buddhist literature mentor. Contemplative methods described in secondary sources are not personal instruction; empowerment and guidance belong with qualified teachers and communities.
The system
- Dzogchen: recognition of mind’s nature in Nyingma frames.
- Encyclopedic Treasuries organising view, meditation and conduct.
- ORDL boundary: reading map—not empowerment or retreat coaching.
Key works
- The Seven Treasuries
- Trilogy of Natural Ease (and related cycles)
- Other Nyingma Dzogchen treatises attributed in the tradition
Where to start
- A reliable translation of one Treasury with scholarly introduction
- Overview histories of the Nyingma school before diving into technical manuals
