Plutarch

Πλούταρχος · Plutarch · c. 46 – after 119 CE

Egypt–Mesopotamia (reception)WestAntiquity (to 600)

Greek moralist; Isis and Osiris as a key Hellenistic reception of Egyptian myth.

Life

Plutarch of Chaeronea wrote Parallel Lives and many Moralia essays. His Isis and Osiris interprets Egyptian myth for a Greek philosophical audience and became a major bridge text for later Hermetic and Renaissance readings of Egypt. ORDL places him under Egypt–Mesopotamia as a reception figure linking temple religion to the Hermetica origin story—not as a modern Kemetic reconstruction teacher.

The system

  • Allegorical reading of Isis–Osiris for Greek philosophy.
  • Bridge from Egyptian cult lore to later Hermetic reception.
  • Moral essays as parallel track to the Egypt treatise.
