Life
Austin Osman Spare (1886–1956) was an English artist and occult writer. Works such as The Book of Pleasure and his sigil rhetoric were later adopted by chaos-magic authors as ancestors of belief-as-tool practice. ORDL lists him as a chaos-magic literature card. This page does not teach sigil technique or sell results magic.
The system
- Sigil rhetoric in early twentieth-century occult art prose
- Automatic drawing and the “kia” vocabulary in print
- ORDL boundary: literature history—no technique drills
Key works
- The Book of Pleasure (Self-Love)
- The Focus of Life
- Related art–occult pamphlets and later editions
Where to start
- Read Spare beside later chaos-magic anthologies as reception, not as a workbook
- Attend to the art-historical context of his drawings
