Life
Kūkai (774–835), posthumously Kōbō Daishi, established Shingon Buddhism in Japan after study in Tang China. His treatises on mantra, mandala and the realization of Buddhahood in this body circulate in modern translations such as Yoshito Hakeda’s Major Works. ORDL files him as Japanese Buddhist literature. This page does not substitute for abhisheka or temple instruction.
The system
- Mantra and mandala as published doctrine
- Buddhahood in this body (sokushin jōbutsu) in Shingon prose
- ORDL boundary: reading—not empowerment
Key works
- Major Works (Yoshito S. Hakeda tr./ed.) Amazon
- Jūjūshinron and related treatises in translation
Как участник партнёрской программы Amazon, ORDL получает комиссию с подходящих покупок. Ссылки ведут на Amazon.com; цена для вас не меняется.
Where to start
- Start with Hakeda’s introductions before technical mandala chapters
- Pair with temple histories rather than online DIY mikkyō
