Sōtō Zen founder in Japan; Shōbōgenzō and Moon in a Dewdrop as literature gates.

Cette fiche n'existe pour l'instant qu'en anglais et en chinois.

Life

Dōgen (1200–1253) founded the Sōtō Zen school in Japan. His Shōbōgenzō fascicles—available in selections such as Moon in a Dewdrop—are central published sources for zazen, time and Buddha-nature in Japanese Buddhist literature. ORDL lists him as a literature card. This page does not replace a teacher or monastery schedule.

The system

  • Zazen and “just sitting” in literary fascicles
  • Being-time and Buddha-nature as philosophical prose
  • ORDL boundary: texts—not a substitute for 真人师父

Key works

  • Shōbōgenzō (selected translations) Amazon
  • Moon in a Dewdrop (Tanahashi et al.)
  • Eihei Kōroku

En tant que Partenaire Amazon, ORDL perçoit une commission sur les achats remplissant les conditions requises. Les liens ouvrent Amazon.com ; le prix reste le même pour vous.

Where to start

  • Use annotated selections before attempting the whole Shōbōgenzō
  • Read with Sōtō institutional histories

What happens to “practice-enlightenment” when Dōgen is read only in paperback selections?
