Life

Éliphas Lévi (Alphonse Louis Constant, 1810–1875) was a French writer whose Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie (translated as Transcendental Magic) reshaped nineteenth-century occult vocabulary—pentagrams, astral light, and reinterpreted Solomonic imagery—for a print public. ORDL files him as a grimoire-reception literature card. This page does not reproduce operative recipes or sell rites.

The system

  • Occult revival prose that rereads older grimoires
  • Christian and kabbalistic symbols in a popular French frame
  • ORDL boundary: reception history—no operative magic

Key works

  • Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie / Transcendental Magic (A. E. Waite tr.) Amazon

Which parts of modern “high magic” talk are Lévi’s nineteenth-century inventions rather than medieval inheritance?
